Labiaplasty in Korea: Labia Minora Reduction, Cost and Healing Time

Labiaplasty in Seoul, Korea reshapes or reduces the labia minora when their length or asymmetry causes chafing, discomfort in fitted clothing or self-consciousness. At S Women's Clinic near Gangnam Station, Dr. Hye-Yeon Lee, a female OB/GYN specialist, plans the new edge for natural shape and symmetry, operates under sleep sedation or local anesthesia, and closes it with absorbable stitches that need no removal.

Who considers labiaplasty, and when surgery is not needed
The labia minora, the inner lips on either side of the vaginal opening, differ a great deal from one woman to the next in length, shape, color and how far they extend past the outer labia. When researchers measured healthy women, the range was wide, and one side being longer than the other was common (Lloyd et al., 2005). ACOG describes this as normal variation and notes that surgery done only to change appearance is not medically necessary (ACOG, 2020). Labia minora that are larger than average are sometimes called labial hypertrophy, yet size on its own is not a reason to operate.
Women who ask about labiaplasty usually describe a practical problem:
- Rubbing or chafing during running, cycling or long walks
- Tissue that catches on underwear, leggings or swimwear
- Tugging or discomfort during intercourse
- A difference between the two sides that has bothered you for a long time
- Self-consciousness in changing rooms or with a partner
When the doctor may advise against labiaplasty
If nothing rubs or hurts and the shape sits within the usual range, Dr. Hye-Yeon Lee may suggest leaving things as they are. If worry about how your vulva looks is constant and distressing, she may suggest talking it through before any booking, in line with ACOG's advice to screen for body image concerns before genital cosmetic surgery. Surgery is postponed during pregnancy, while an infection is active, or until healing after childbirth is complete. The decision should be yours: a partner's opinion can play a part, but it should not be the reason you go ahead.
How labiaplasty is planned and performed in Seoul
Labiaplasty designed for natural shape and symmetry
A good labiaplasty is designed, not just reduced. Before anything is marked, the doctor looks at how the labia minora sit beside the clitoral hood folds and the outer labia, then plans an edge that follows your own anatomy so the two sides look balanced. This is what we mean by a Korean eye for design: attention to proportion and a natural contour, with the final size agreed with you in advance. Clinic records from 2008 to 2026 count about 6,000 labiaplasty cases.
Conservative by design
The labia minora help keep the vaginal opening and urethra from drying out and form a barrier against outside bacteria, so the plan keeps enough tissue to do that job. Removing too much is hard to undo, so the new edge is set conservatively. Where the skin is thin, it can relax slightly over time, and the doctor factors this in when deciding the final size.
Labiaplasty step by step on the day
- Consultation and examination with Dr. Hye-Yeon Lee. Clinical photographs are taken for your medical record, and you agree on shape and size together. When the schedule allows, consultation and surgery can take place on the same day.
- Anesthesia: sleep sedation or local anesthesia, chosen with the doctor. For sedation, fast for 4 hours beforehand. Numbing medication is also injected into the labia to ease discomfort after surgery.
- Excess tissue is removed with the Vesalius LX Plus (Telea, Italy), a quantum molecular resonance (QMR) radiofrequency surgical device that cuts and coagulates in one pass. It works with radiofrequency energy and does not use a laser. The excision pattern is chosen after examination and explained to you before surgery.
- The edge is closed with fine absorbable stitches placed under the skin surface, so there are no stitches to take out later.
- You rest in the recovery room for about an hour and can leave on your own the same day; patients from other cities often travel home by train or bus.
Some women also have extra folds around the clitoral hood, and the clitoris may sit lower than usual. The full correction option treats the labia minora, trims those hood folds and lifts the clitoral area to a higher position in one operation; whether you need it is decided at examination.

Labiaplasty price in South Korea
- Labiaplasty, one side: ₩1,300,000 before VAT, ₩1,430,000 including VAT
- Labiaplasty, both sides: ₩1,500,000 before VAT, ₩1,650,000 including VAT
- Full correction, labia minora with the clitoral hood folds and position: ₩2,000,000 –
3,000,000 before VAT, ₩2,200,000 – 3,300,000 including VAT (examination required) - Sleep sedation, if you choose it: ₩200,000 before VAT, ₩220,000 including VAT, added to the surgery fee; with local anesthesia this charge does not apply
The clinic's fee schedule is set before VAT, so each labiaplasty fee appears with the 10% VAT total beside it. The VAT refund on cosmetic procedures for foreign visitors ended on December 31, 2025, which makes the VAT-inclusive amount the one to budget for.
The final fee depends on the shape and amount of tissue, so it is confirmed after examination. The surgery fee includes the check with the doctor on the morning after surgery and the one-week and one-month follow-ups; ask whether your quote also covers medication and the sitz bath solution. If you have labiaplasty together with vaginoplasty for women (vaginal tightening surgery), the combined fee is adjusted from the sum of the two and explained with your quote.
Labiaplasty recovery timeline
- Day 0
Surgery, then about an hour in the recovery room before you head back to your hotel on your own. Apply ice packs on the day to limit swelling.
- Day 1
Morning check with Dr. Hye-Yeon Lee in person, required before you travel. If healing looks right, you can fly home from that afternoon, even on a flight of 10 hours or more; wear loose, comfortable clothing that does not press on the area. Showering is fine from today, ice packs help again, and a daily sitz bath in lukewarm water with the clinic's solution begins. Skip saunas, bathhouses and soaking in a tub.
- Day 7
The week of medication to help prevent infection and the daily sitz baths come to an end. Follow-up check: in person if you are still in Seoul, when the stitch ends are tidied, or by sending wound photos if you have flown home.
- Day 21
About three weeks after surgery, intercourse can resume once the wound has fully healed.
- Day 30
Second follow-up check, about one month after surgery, in person or by photos. For six months after surgery, Dr. Hye-Yeon Lee looks at the wound photos and questions you send on WhatsApp or LINE and answers them herself. See a local doctor promptly for heavy bleeding with clots, pain that keeps getting worse, or a fever.

Labiaplasty risks and limits
Every operation carries risk. Reviews of published labiaplasty studies describe it as generally low-risk with high satisfaction, yet they also report complications that needed further treatment, and rates differ between techniques (Escandón et al., 2022; Géczi et al., 2024). Before you decide, the doctor goes through each of these with you:
- Swelling and bruising in the first days
- Bleeding, or a collection of blood under the skin (hematoma)
- Wound separation along the stitch line, which may need re-stitching
- Infection
- Asymmetry between the two sides after healing
- Scarring along the edge, which can sometimes be visible or feel firm
- Changes in sensation, such as numbness or extra sensitivity
- Pain during intercourse
- Over-removal of tissue, which is difficult to correct
- Revision surgery if the edge heals unevenly
We cannot guarantee a specific shape, and healing differs between women. A prospective study found that satisfaction with genital appearance improved after labiaplasty, while overall psychological wellbeing and relationship quality stayed the same (Sharp et al., 2016). Tell the doctor about any medicines that affect bleeding and any history of slow wound healing, as these change how your surgery is planned.
The doctor who consults you is the one who operates.

Labiaplasty FAQ
Is the doctor I consult the one who performs my labiaplasty?
Yes. Dr. Hye-Yeon Lee, a Korean board-certified OB/GYN specialist (medical license No. 70918) who has practiced in Gangnam since 2008, sees you at consultation, performs the surgery herself and checks your healing at follow-up. She is the only doctor at the clinic, so your operation is never handed over to someone else.
How soon can I fly home after labiaplasty?
From the afternoon of the day after surgery. Dr. Hye-Yeon Lee checks the wound in person that morning, and this check is required, so plan on at least one night in Seoul. Long-haul flights of 10 hours or more are fine from then. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that does not press on the area, and get up to walk the aisle now and then.
Does labiaplasty hurt?
The operation itself is done under sleep sedation or local anesthesia, and numbing medication is injected into the labia to ease discomfort afterwards. Soreness and swelling over the first days are expected, and how much varies between women. Walking out on the same day is normally not a problem, and ice packs help.
Are labiaplasty prices on this page before or after VAT?
Both are shown. Each plan lists the fee before VAT and, beside it, the total with VAT added. Foreign visitors can no longer claim a VAT refund on these procedures, so plan your budget around the VAT-inclusive figure. The final fee is confirmed after the doctor examines you.
When can I have sex again after labiaplasty?
Plan on about three weeks. The stitch line has to close completely before intercourse, so wait until the wound has healed. If the area still feels sore or the edge looks open at that point, give it more time before resuming.
Is labiaplasty done under local anesthesia or sedation?
Either is possible. You can have sleep sedation or local anesthesia, and the choice is made with the doctor at consultation. If you choose sedation, fast for 4 hours before your appointment. Afterwards you rest in the recovery room for about an hour and can go back to your hotel alone the same day; no companion is needed after sedation, although patients under 18 must come with a parent or guardian.
Do labiaplasty stitches need to be removed?
No. The edge is closed with fine absorbable stitches placed under the skin surface, so there is no removal appointment. At the one-week check the loose stitch ends can be tidied, and if you have already gone home, no separate removal is needed. How quickly they dissolve varies from person to person.
Is it normal for one side of my labia to be longer?
Yes. Differences in length and shape between the two sides are common, and measurements of healthy women show a wide normal range. Labiaplasty becomes an option when the difference causes rubbing, discomfort or ongoing distress, and the doctor will tell you plainly if she thinks surgery is unnecessary.
Is labiaplasty here a laser labiaplasty?
No. The surgical device is the Vesalius LX Plus, which uses quantum molecular resonance (QMR) radiofrequency energy to cut and coagulate tissue, and it is not a laser. The device matters less than the plan itself: how much tissue stays, where the edge sits and how well the two sides match.
Can I consult in English before booking?
Yes. You can write in English through the form on this page or on WhatsApp before booking, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. On the day of your visit, the clinic team can assist you in English, and Japanese and Chinese are also available.
What are the payment, deposit and refund terms for labiaplasty?
Cards issued outside Korea are accepted. Under the clinic's current practice, the deposit is returned if you cancel up to the day before surgery, but not if you cancel on the day itself, and changing your date keeps the deposit in place. Refunds of the surgery fee follow the usual practice of medical clinics in Korea. Ask the coordinator for the deposit amount when you book.
Can I have labiaplasty after childbirth?
Yes, and many women ask about it after having children. Healing from delivery should be complete first, and surgery is not done during pregnancy. Mention your birth history and any plans for future pregnancies at consultation, since the doctor takes both into account when advising on timing.
My labiaplasty was done at another clinic years ago. Can I have surgery again here?
Possibly. If several years have passed since the earlier operation, Dr. Hye-Yeon Lee can examine you and discuss whether further surgery makes sense. Surgery whose purpose is to correct the result of an operation done at another clinic is not offered here, so bring any details of the earlier procedure to consultation.
What if my period falls on my labiaplasty date?
Tell us your expected period dates when you book. Surgery is scheduled so that neither the day of the operation nor the two to three days after it overlap with your period, and if your cycle shifts, the date can be adjusted.
Tell us your concern.
Send your question — no photos needed. We reply in English as soon as possible.
